A familiar building on Broadway Street in the city faces a very uncertain future.

Candidates are beginning to announce their intention to run for mayor and council in the 2016 civic election. The most recent to announce is Calvin Tokarchuk.

The City detachment of the RCMP has a new top man. Staff Sgt. Jeff Simpson took over as detachment commander Aug. 22, replacing Staff Sgt. Greg Nichol who retired.

Dear Editor: I am writing in response to the letter in your August 31 edition from Joan Kjargaard regarding Yorkton’s swimming pool.

Asomewhat iconic building is headed to, at best, new owners, but more likely demolition. The Alexander Ross branch of the Royal Canadian Legion in the city is struggling financially.

Dozens of students and their families attended Parkland College’s annual University Orientation Night August 31. The college continues to grow its university offerings with nearly 200 students registered in university programs and courses this year.

Almost 80 players hit the ice at the Farrell Agencies Arena over the weekend at the Yorkotn Terriers camps. With the official start of the 2016-2017 season just around the corner, the training has begun.

The first game of the season for the YRHS senior Raiders football team was held in Swift Current on Thursday, Sept. 1. The Raiders got off to a slow start in the first quarter, allowing the Swift Current Colts to gain a 7-0 lead.
