Yorkton This Week

Father’s Day proved a good day for the Yorkton Cardinals as they earned a home field win over Regina in Western Major Baseball League action.

It’s time to pack your golf discs if you are headed to Whitesand Regional Park. The park just northwest of Theodore, has a new amenity, and it is an 18 target disc golf course.

It may not be immediately clear to everyone how important a recent visit to the city could be. Andriy Shevchenko, the new Ukrainian ambassador to Canada, was in Yorkton, and while the visit was a short one, the long term impact could be significant.

Arthur Griffith was born on December 27, 1916 on the family farm in the Cherryfield district, near Willowbrook, SK. He was the eldest son of George and Ruth (nee Meays) Griffith. Arthur attended the Cherryfield school.

Peter Stachiw, son of Stanley and Margaret (nee Banadyga) Stachiw was born, at home, on the family homestead, near St. Demetrius Church, in the Hryhoriw District near Preeceville, SK.

Mom, Grandma, wife, beautiful soul - so many words to describe an amazing woman. Janet Elizabeth Polsom, Betty, as everyone knew her, was born on May 2, 1937 to George and Muriel Hiett in Weston, ON.

Victoria Platz (nee Windjack) was born October 19, 1919 at Theodore, SK to Wasyl and Katherine Windjack of Theodore. She went to be with her Lord and Saviour on June 7, 2016 at the age of 96. She passed away in the Yorkton and District Nursing Home.

Mrs. Rose Sass of Yorkton, beloved mother of Raymond (Donna) Sass and Lorraine (Mike) Heck was called to eternal rest at the age of 84. Rose is survived by 3 grandchildren, Nolan Sass, Trista Sass, and Brandon Heck as well as 7 great-grandchildren.
