PIERCELAND – Four of the five people accused of an armed car-jacking in Pierceland where a man was shot, remain in custody since their arrest in February.
Bail has been denied for 23-year-old Andrew Opikokew, 31-year-old Elliot Piche, and 33-year-old Harold Mitsuing. Jr. A show cause hearing is scheduled for 30-year-old Geoffrey Lewis on Sept. 6 in Pierceland Circuit Court.
Keshia Crookedneck has been released from custody and a bench warrant to hold was issued. This means a warrant for her arrest will be issued if she doesn't show up for court for her next scheduled appearance.
Crookedneck, Opikokew, Piche, and Mitsuing, are also back in court Sept. 6 to enter an election. All five had appearances in Pierceland Circuit Court Aug. 2 to face charges of robbery, aggravated assault, and numerous firearms-related offences.
The charges stem from an incident on Feb. 16 after Pierceland RCMP got a report about an armed robbery on Deer Lake Trail. Police say that a man and woman were parked in an SUV at the side of the road when two other vehicles pulled up to them. A man got out of the SUV and there was an altercation between him and the people in the other two vehicles. The man was shot and the SUV was stolen. He and the woman, however, were able to walk for help. He was treated at the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
Pierceland and Loon Lake RCMP searched for the suspects. Later that evening they found one of the two suspect vehicles on Island Lake First Nation and arrested three people. Police seized two prohibited firearms, ammunition, bear spray, and a machete from their vehicle. The stolen SUV was recovered on Mudie Lake First Nation.
After investigating further, Pierceland RCMP arrested two people on Feb. 17. Sask. RCMP’s North Battleford General Investigation Section and Forensic Identification Services helped with the investigation.
