MEADOW LAKE – A Hafford man accused of a string of thefts spanning two months in Saskatoon, Lloydminster, Borden, and Biggar, was remanded in custody after his first court appearance in Meadow Lake court.

Danton Dumont, 55, has a show cause hearing scheduled in Canoe Lake Cree Nation Circuit Court on Aug. 10.

He is charged with possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000, and possession of property obtained by crime under $5,000.

Beauval RCMP say they are trying to find the owners of the stolen property. Some of the items include tools, a slip tank, DVD’s, and cables. Dumont is also accused of stealing a vehicle.

Beauval RCMP arrested Dumont after getting a call early in the morning of July 24 that a vehicle had gained access to Canoe Lake First Nation after the driver was refused entry into the community. The man then abandoned the vehicle and fled on foot.

Police located Dumont that evening and arrested him. He also had outstanding warrants out of North Battleford on charges of driving while prohibited and failing to appear in court.

The police investigation determined that the truck, A Ford F350 crew cab, had been reported stolen to Saskatoon Police Service on June 1. RCMP say a significant amount of stolen property was recovered from the vehicle.

If you believe your stolen items may be part of this investigation, please contact Beauval RCMP at 306-288-6400. You will be asked to describe the items and serial numbers are helpful to provide, if you have them available.
