A manslaughter charge against Brandon Omani was stayed in Saskatoon Provincial Court.

SASKATOON – Charges were stayed against a man accused of killing 39-year-old Vincent Hoeber in a bear spray incident last year.

Brandon Leo Omani, 25, was charged with manslaughter in September 2022. The Prosecutor stayed the charge in Saskatoon Provincial Court on March 10. The Crown doesn’t have to tell the court why a charge is being stayed.

Saskatoon Police say that an altercation had occurred between Omani and Hoeber at about 2 a.m. Sept. 4, 2022, in the 400 block of Avenue Q South. When police arrived, they found Hoeber badly injured. Hoeber was taken to Royal University Hospital by Medavie Health Services where he died. Police had said it was unclear if the two knew each other.

Omani also had an assault charge stemming from a separate incident on Dec. 29, 2022. That charge was withdrawn at the Crown’s request on Feb. 13.
