Police nab repeat graffiti offender

Total of 13 warrants executed, suspect arrested without incident.

REGINA –  The man believed to be responsible for a string of graffiti earlier this year has been arrested by police. A total of six incidents were reported in the downtown during the end of March and throughout September of 2022, some of which were repeated at the same location.

On March 25, a building on the 2700 block of 13th Avenue received damage to a bench and doors. Then, between March 25 and 28, a glass door was damaged on the 1800 block of Hamilton Street.

A further three incidents to a location on the 2400 block of Victoria Avenue received damage to windows between Sept. 19 and 25, then a building on the 2300 block of 12th Avenue sustained damage to windows between Sept. 26 and 27.

“The incidents bore similarities to each other, and investigators identified a potential suspect,” said RPS in a media release. “A 47 year-old male was named the subject of six warrants for Mischief and seven warrants for Breach of Probation, but the suspect was not located until Friday, November 11, 2022, in the area of Victoria Avenue and Edgar Street.”

Police say the man - Anthony John Barry - was arrested without incident and the warrants were executed. Barry made his first court appearance on these charges on Nov. 14, and will return for his next appearance on Dec. 5.
