RCMP Roving Traffic Unit seizes drugs, cash, weapons in traffic stops

In the Maidstone area, the Saskatchewan RCMP Roving Traffic Unit made three large drug busts.

MAIDSTONE  – In a series of traffic stops, the Saskatchewan RCMP Roving Traffic Unit, supported by the RCMP Highway Patrol of the Provincial Protective Services (PPS) Branch, successfully removed illegal drugs, a restricted firearm, and a substantial amount of cash, believed to be the proceeds of criminal activity, off Saskatchewan’s streets.

In the Maidstone area, the Saskatchewan RCMP Roving Traffic Unit made three large drug busts.

“I am incredibly proud of the work that is being done across the province by our officers and partners at Saskatchewan Highway Patrol,” said Supt. Grant St. Germaine, officer in charge of Saskatchewan RCMP Traffic Services.

“By taking all of these illicit items off the road and out of criminals’ hands, it demonstrates our commitment to keeping the public out of harm’s way,”

On May 3, they seized about 10 kilograms of cocaine following a traffic stop. RCMP say that the cocaine was tested and resulted in purity levels as high as 98 per cent. This seizure will disrupt the supply of illicit, lethal drugs destined for distribution across Canada, particularly Saskatchewan, said Germaine.

Edmonton resident, 32-year-old John Morin, was charged with possession of cocaine for the purpose of trafficking and appears in Lloydminster Provincial Court July 10.

On May 30, the RCMP Roving Traffic Unit seized about six litres of GHB, which could have resulted in 1,200 doses. They also seized a small amount of cocaine and methamphetamine. Two people were arrested, 40-year-old Warren Stricker of Langham and 42-year-old Quinton Stricker of Saskatoon. They were charged with drug trafficking offences and appear in Lloydminster court July 24.

On May 31, the RCMP Roving Traffic Unit seized hundreds of thousands of dollars, a large amount of methamphetamine, and a loaded restricted firearm with two magazines containing bullets.

Edmonton resident, 46-year-old Mohamed Ilmi, was charged with seven firearms related offences, laundering proceeds of crime, possession of property obtained by crime, possession of methamphetamine for the purpose of drug trafficking. Ilmi appears in Lloydminster court July 10.
