MAIDSTONE – Police seized $4 million in methamphetamine and cocaine and have disrupted the supply of illicit, lethal drugs destined for distribution across Canada, particularly Saskatchewan.
As part of an on-going investigation by the Alberta RCMP Serious and Organized Crime Unit, the Saskatchewan RCMP Roving Traffic Unit conducted a traffic stop on Highway 16 near Maidstone on June 1. RCMP say that due to the complexity of the ongoing investigation since June, they are only now able to share details and some photos of the seized items.
Police say the vehicle was headed west and, in the vehicle, police found 90 Kilograms of methamphetamine and 65 kilograms of cocaine.
“This is also another great example of how the RCMP’s work is not limited by our borders and we can pull resources from all provinces to get the job done,” said Commanding Officer of the Saskatchewan RCMP, Rhonda Blackmore.
Collaboration among police agencies is a crucial part in policing communities efficiently and effectively, say the RCMP.
“This investigation is an excellent demonstration of what can be achieved through agency collaboration,” said Superintendent Sean Boser, Officer in Charge of Federal Policing from Calgary, Alta.
“By working together, the RCMP and our partner agencies prevented a significant amount of methamphetamine and cocaine from entering our communities and potentially causing numerous accidental overdoses.”
The methamphetamine seized has been tested and resulted in purity levels as high as 100 per cent. The cocaine seized has been tested and resulted in purity levels as high as 86 per cent.
Sahilpreet Grewal, 19, and Parminder Singh, 20, both of Edmonton were both arrested on June 2 and charged with possession of methamphetamine for the purpose of trafficking, and possession of cocaine for the purpose of trafficking.
Both Grewal and Singh are scheduled to appear in Lloydminster Provincial Court on Oct. 16.
