Saskatoon judge orders fitness assessment on man accused of murder

SASKATOON – A mental health assessment has been ordered on 62-year-old Vernon Knorr who is charged with second-degree murder in Tanice Roberts-Knorr’s death. Judge Marilyn Gray ordered that he be sent to Saskatchewan Hospital in North Battleford for 60 days.

Court documents show that Knorr, who is from Edam, appeared in court July 27 by CCTV from the Saskatoon Provincial Correctional Centre. He is represented by defence counsel Rebecca Crookshanks. Prosecutor Dan Dahl appeared for the Crown.  

Judge Gray adjourned his matter to Aug. 8 in Saskatoon Provincial Court.

A no communication order was placed stipulating that Vernon Knorr can’t contact Kelly Knorr, except through a lawyer.

Saskatoon police found Tanice Roberts-Knorr deceased in a home in the 800 block of 10th Street East on July 20. She was the city’s seventh homicide victim of 2023.

Sask. RCMP helped Saskatoon Police Service arrest Vernon Knorr in the resort village of Mistusinne, which is near Elbow, and about 144 kilometres south of Saskatoon.
