SASKATOON – A 36-year-old man is accused of making threats to harm and kill people.
At about 10 p.m. on Oct. 5, police were dispatched to an apartment building in the 2200 block of St. Henry Avenue for a weapons complaint. Numerous reports were received stating that a man, who may be armed, was extremely agitated and had a large dog with him. Before police arrived, the suspect fled on foot toward the riverbank. Members of Saskatoon Police Service Patrol, Canine and the Tactical Support Unit (TSU) responded to locate the suspect, who was found attempting to hide in a steep bank near the river.
After the suspect refused to comply with police commands, and with the threat of unknown weapons present, a TSU member deployed a less-lethal use of force option. Officers were then able to successfully arrest the suspect, who remained agitated and combative with police.
A knife was found on him and he was believed to be under the influence of an intoxicant. The suspect was taken to Detention where he was medically assessed and cleared by the paramedic.
It was later learned that an hour prior to this incident, the suspect approached an unknown individual at Saskatchewan Crescent and Victoria Avenue and threatened to shoot them, prior to fleeing. A number of other reports were made to SPS regarding this man in the area, prior to the arrest.
He has been charged with uttering death threats, possession of a dangerous weapon and carrying a concealed weapon.
