SASKATOON – Just two days before allegedly killing 24-year-old Taya Rae Anne Sinclair in Prince Albert, Stephanie Halkett-Stevenson held a man captive in Saskatoon and threatened him.
On March 15, 2022, Prince Albert police found Taya Sinclair’s burned body in a snow bank near Alfred Jenkins Field House in Prince Albert.
On either March 12 or March 13, 2022, Halkett-Stevenson allegedly held a man captive in Saskatoon, threatened to wound, maim, disfigure or kill him, and assaulted him, according to court documents obtained by SASKTODAY.ca. In that incident, Halkett-Stevenson is charged with aggravated assault, unlawful confinement and uttering threats.
Halkett-Stevenson was arrested on Jan. 3 while in custody in Prince Albert on unrelated charges and charged with first-degree murder in Sinclair’s death. Sinclair was reported missing to Saskatoon police on March 14, 2022.
A GoFundMe page has been set up to support her two young boys. So far, $3,725 has been raised towards the $15,000 goal.
"Taya, a MMIW, was taken from her family in a tragic and horrific way," reads the GoFundMe page. "She still had so much to give and live for. Her children will need so much support and guidance as we move forward. If you are able to donate and help in any way, we would appreciate it. We appreciate the love and support we have been given thus far."
Halkett-Stevenson remains in custody and is back in Saskatoon court on March 2.
