LOREBURN, Sask. — A blaze has gutted a grain elevator in a southwestern Saskatchewan town following a fire Sunday.
Volunteers were called in from Elbow and Davidson to the Loreburn, Sask., scene Sunday morning to help battle the fire with local firefighters, according to social media postings from the village and participating fire departments.
Favourable wind conditions during the fire prevented a collapse of the blazing structure, which would have threatened other buildings, according to the Davidson Volunteer Fire Department.
Elbow volunteers were also able to respond quickly because they had already assembled for training exercises, arriving at the scene shortly before 10 a.m.
The structure had been a fixture in Loreburn since 1975 with a capacity of 17,000 tonnes, and served the communities surrounding Lake Diefenbaker.
No injuries have been reported, nor possible causes of the fire.
The blaze is the second in as many weeks to hit a Saskatchewan elevator.
On Jan. 12, Saskatoon firefighters tackled a two-alarm fire at the P&H Mill caused by a machine that then spread to other floors of the building.
