Elk and moose left to waste; call TIPP line if you have info

The Sask. Association of Conservation Officers says unlawful hunting is picking up and urges the public to put the TIPP line in their phones.

NORTHWEST SASKATCHEWAN — Saskatchewan conservation officers are investigating two incidents of poaching in the northwest where meat from a moose and an elk was left to waste.

On Aug. 26, Loon Lake conservation officers received a TIPP call reporting that an elk had been unlawfully harvested on private farmland north of Highway 303, along Range Road 3222, in the Celtic area.

According to the Saskatchewan Association of Conservation Officers Facebook page, officers determined that the elk was shot from along the Range Road, then retrieved by driving through the standing canola crop. Officers found the remains of the animal, much of which was left to waste, as well as other evidence at the scene, but need the public’s help to identify whoever was responsible.

Two days earlier, on Aug. 24, in what the SACC called a blatant poaching incident, Loon Lake conservation officers received a TIPP call that a cow moose had been unlawfully harvested on private land off a lease road south of Paradise Hill, near Butte-St-Pierre. Officers responded and found a partially harvested cow moose that was believed to have been shot early that morning. A lot of the meat was left to waste. Officers were able to collect some evidence at the scene but they need help in identifying the person(s) responsible.
