Going buggy at the IMPACT Early Childhood Fair

More than fifteen pre-school aged children attended the IMPACT Early Childhood Fair in the Kipling School’s multi-purpose room on Thursday, March 14th. The program in partnership with Community Activities Fund, Regional Kids First and South East Cornerstone Public School Division #209, offers the youngsters born in 2015 to experience an evening of fun age-appropriate activities, snacks and the opportunity to mingle with other children their age.

Tables and floor mats were spread out around the multi-purpose room, displaying a variety of interactive bug-themed games, puzzles and activities for the excited pre-schoolers and their parents. Matching games like “The Itsy Bitsy Spider”, “Name that Bug”, “Busy Bee Hives” and “Lady Bug Counting” helped the children to learn how to match an item to a picture, identify matching numbers and matching shapes and patterns.

The children experienced how to use bug stamps in the kinetic sand station and build towers with Jenga-style wooden bricks painted like bugs.  The interactive “Going Buggy” card and toy game helped the pre-schoolers identify the bugs, what they are called and where to find them.

Pictures and toys played a huge part in the learning process for the evening event, keeping it fun and stress free for the young visitors. Parents sat at “The Very Hungry Caterpillar” station to read the book and identify the matching foods that were in the book. The children pieced together large puzzle pieces to complete several bug-themed pictures on a floor-mat station.

The evening was all fun and games for the pre-school children, however, the event was intended for early learning and (pre) school preparation. After playing, learning and interacting, the attending children and their parents shared snacks provided by the IMPACT Early Childhood Fair.

As part of the free program, the registered pre-schooler's left with a bag of learning goodies, activities and information for the parents worth over $40. This annual event helps ease the pre-schooler's into pre-school programs, introducing the educators and school scenery at the same time.
