The KW Oil Kings are planning an evening of entertainment, awards, auction and presentations from special sports guests Jeff Odgers and Weston Dressler on Saturday, April 6th at the Kipling Community Centre.

On Saturday, April 6th, the KW Oil Kings will host their third annual KW Oil Kings Sportsmen’s Dinner at the Kipling Community Centre. The hockey team plans to celebrate their season with an evening of entertainment, all while quenching thirsts with cocktails at 5pm and sharing a mouth-watering roast beef meal (and don’t forget the desserts), catered by Ben Dubois and Club 19, at 6:30pm, with their attendees.

“Hosted by Brendan McGuire, the evening will consist of presentations from both of our special guests, player awards, and a silent and live auction featuring sports memorabilia (provided by TNT custom framing in Kipling) and other special donations,” Geoff Hewson advised. “The live auction will be performed by Rhett Parks of Whitewood Livestock.”

This year, the KW Oil Kings have set up an evening with two special guest speakers, Jeff Odgers (former NHL Captain of the San Jose Sharks) and Weston Dressler (CFL veteran of the Saskatchewan Roughriders and Winnipeg Blue Bombers). Both speakers have been influential in their sports and have made headlines in their performances throughout their careers.

“We felt that both of these speakers will be very interesting to our guests,” Hewson described the guests. “Jeff Odgers followed a junior career in Brandon by playing more than 800 games in the NHL over 12 seasons and accumulated over 2000 penalty minutes in his NHL career. Mr. Odgers is back home now (Spy Hill), continuing the second big passion in his life, farming.”

Hewson added: “Weston Dressler is a 4-time west all-star, a two-time CFL all-star, and a member of the 2013 Grey Cup Champions. Mr. Dressler is a testament to perseverance, discipline, and effort. For a 5’7” man playing against far larger opponents, Mr. Dressler is living proof that a smaller man can excel in a big man’s game.”

The KW Oil Kings have kept many of the community preoccupied from the cold weather, winter blues, keeping them on their toes and full of team cheer throughout the season. Events like the KW Oil Kings Sportsmen’s Dinner give the community the opportunity to celebrate that season with the players all while helping to keep the team on the ice, financially.

“Events like the sportsmen’s dinner are very important. Aside from the financial benefit to the hockey team, getting the general public together is great for our small towns,” Hewson shared. “Our hockey club brings our community together throughout the season, and the sportsmen’s dinner brings fans and the community out one more time.”

Hewson added: “Tickets to events like this can be well in excess of $100, and we’re very proud that we’ve held our ticket price constant for the last three years.” All proceeds from the evening event will go to the continued operation of the KW Oil Kings hockey team.

As always, single tickets are $75 or $500 for a table of eight. All tickets are to be purchased in advance by contacting Robbie Barath at 1 (306) 736-7255. Tickets can be purchased via e-transfer as well. For tickets and sponsorship opportunities, and more information please call Rob.
