The 2016 annual volunteer awards were presented at the annual Hearts For Youth Banquet and Auction held on Friday, Feb. 10th. Mayor Buck Bright noted that “Volunteers are the most important resource community organizations have”. He then presented awards in the following categories:
Sport & Recreation Category – This award was given to Graham and Tammy Dayle. Buck noted that the Dayles are “long time residents of Kipling...who have devoted many hours volunteering in their community through various clubs and organizations such as the Golf Club, Fire Department, Arena and the Health Foundation.”
Senior Category – The winners in this category were Terry and Gloria Ovans. Buck praised Terry and Gloria for being willing to “volunteer extensively with the Kipling Legion and Ladies Auxiliary”. He also pointed out that the couple spends “many hours each spring and summer looking after the Kipling Museum”.
Culture and Heritage Category – This award was given posthumously to Lorne Rygh. Buck described the many contributions that Lorne had made to his community with these words:
“Lorne spent countless hours over many years working with the Kipling and District Historical Society and Museum...Lorne passionately believed that the history of our community needs to be preserved and communicated to future generations, and his work in developing the Kipling Museum as well as planning for the upcoming mural is evidence of this.”
