Windthorst Skating Club presents “Candyland”

Windthorst Skating Club presented their annual ice show entitled ìCandylandî on Sunday afternoon to a large appreciative crowd.

     Windthorst Skating Club presented their annual ice show entitled ìCandylandî on Sunday afternoon to a large appreciative crowd. The boards around the ice were brightly decorated with shiny candy wrappers and the backdrop at the end of the ice displayed a huge colorful candy house. The Windthorst Club had a total of 27 skaters taking part this past season.
     Following the singing of O Canada the Ice Show began with Bernard Steele announcing the youngest members of the club - Riley Brown and Kelsey Ennis performing their routine to "C is for Cookie" with the help of some of the senior skaters. 
     Next up performing to "Candy" was the duo of Angela Corscadden and Samantha Allan.
     The group of senior skaters including Madeline Steele, Rachel Steele, Marissa Taylor and Morgan Miskiman performed their routine to "Pour Some Sugar on Me."
     Taking centre ice dressed in a bright pink skirt performing a solo act to "Cake by the Ocean" was Jewel Smith.
     The next group performing to the tune "Can't Help Myself" included Mackenzie Miskiman, Tamara Parker, Ajna Dela Cruz and Natalie Allan.
     Donning their candy coated outfits and performing to the tune "Candyman" were the group including Lucas Ward, Katelyn Brown, Braxton Ennis, Ashton Haus, Avery Haus, Halle Balon and Hayley Brown.
     Next up skating was a solo performance by Madeline Steele skating to "14 Step."
     Dressed casual in shorts and t-shirts and performing their routine to "Honey Bee" were Rachel Steele and Marissa Taylor.
     Taking the ice in their glittery costumes and skating to "Spoonful of Sugar" were the group including Liam Haus, Jayden Haus, Olivia Byrnell, Shayla Byrnell, Ethan Swallow and Kaden Ward.
     Morgan Miskiman was up next performing a solo act to "Willow".
     Starting out their performance perched up on the boards was Angela Corscadden, Hanna Steele, Samantha Allan and Jewel Smith performing their routine to "Sugar."
     Folks had the chance to warm up for a bit during the intermission before the second half of the ice show continued with a performance by Hanna Steele and Jewel Smith skating to the toe-tapping beat of "Candy Store."
     Performing their second routine to "I Want Candy" was the group including: Mackenzie Miskiman, Ajna Dela Cruze, Tamara Parker and Natalie Allan.
     "Chocolate" was the song choice for the duo of Morgan Miskiman and Madeline Steele to show the audience their skating skills.
     Donning 'ears' on their helmets the youngsters performed their routine with the help of a couple of the senior skaters to the song "Gummy Bears." This group consisted of Lucas Ward, Katelyn Brown, Braxton Ennis, Ashton Haus and Avery Haus.
     Performing a solo routine to "California Girls" was Marissa Taylor.
     The trio of Angela Corscadden, Samantha Allan and Hanna Steele took to the ice performing their routine to "American Honey."
     Solo skater Rachel Steele took centre ice dressed in a sparkly outfit to perform her routine to "Candyman."
     Some dressed with suckers stuck to their shirts and skating to the tune "Lollypop" was the group including Liam Haus, Jayden Haus, Olivia Byrnell, Shayla Byrnell, Ethan Swallow, Kaden Ward, Halle Balon and Hayley Brown.
     "If All the Raindrops were Lemon Drops and Gum Drops" brought the youngest duo back to the ice with umbrellas in hand, Riley Brown and Kelsey Ennis.
     One of the songs that had the crowd singing along was "Sugar Sugar," the tune that had the group of five back out on the ice performing their routine: Jewel Smith, Rachel Steele, Marissa Taylor, Madeline Steele and Morgan Miskiman.
     The Grand Finale brought all skaters of the 2017 Windthorst Skating Club out once again on the ice with each of the senior skaters doing a short solo of some of their moves.
     The Windthorst Skating Club members are coached by Stacie Miskiman this year. Thank you to the junior coaches for their help throughout the season as well as thanks to volunteer helpers and to all parents.
     The Club would like to thank everyone for their help in putting on this show and everyone who attended this event. The kids have a lot of fun preparing for their annual Ice Show and hope everyone enjoyed it.
