NORTH BATTLEFORD — North Battleford city council approved a significant land purchase on Aug. 20, clearing the way for future development in the South Riverview area.
The land purchase by Strathworkscollab Inc., a buyer representing a development group, is the first step toward this investment off the Highway 16 Bypass. A number of conditions must still be met by the Oct. 30 deadline before the land transfer is finalized.
The sale includes a parcel of 36.48 acres, valued at $1.93 million plus GST.
Coun. Greg Lightfoot praised the deal during the Aug. 20 meeting, noting the development will span several years.
“It’s exciting to see developers looking at our community and recognizing that we are on the cusp of something big here,” he said in the release.
Mayor Kelli Hawtin also voiced support for the sale and emphasized council’s willingness to work with interested parties.
Hawtin said council is prepared to work with developers on any future rezoning, which may require council approval. Some proposed amendments may also need public consultation before construction begins.
“This [sale] goes to show that North Battleford is open for business," she said.
