The Battlefords North Stars defence of the Canalta Cup is on the verge of coming to an end.

Herb Sutton presented his monthly community safety report last Monday night to city council, and there was no shortage of items he had to deal with on his watch over the past month.

Over the last couple of years, the Battlefords North Stars have handed teams in the Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League some lopsided losses at the Civic Centre. On Saturday night, they found themselves on the wrong side of one of those affairs.

Video evidence ended up being crucial in the robbery conviction of Dakota Cody Ermine recently in Queen’s Bench court in Battleford. Ermine was tried and convicted of robbing the Windsor Hotel and Bar in Battleford on Aug. 12, 2016.

There was some worthy recognition for a couple of longtime firefighters with the City of North Battleford at Monday’s council meeting.

The Battlefords North Stars dominance over the rest of the Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League in post-season play has come to an end.

Battlefords-Lloydminster MP Rosemarie Falk has made known her discontent with the federal Liberals’ new firearms legislation. Falk has blasted the bill in a news release, saying the new legislation will do nothing to address crime.

As expected, Husky’s first court date facing provincial and federal charges in connection to the 2016 oil spill was a brief one.
