The death of Mr. Sebastian Joseph Zimmer of St. Mary's Villa, Humboldt, SK, occurred at Humboldt District Hospital on Saturday, July 30, 2011. He was 87 years of age.

The death of Mr. Sebastian Joseph Zimmer of St. Mary's Villa, Humboldt, SK, occurred at Humboldt District Hospital on Saturday, July 30, 2011. He was 87 years of age. Sebastian was born on July 27, 1924, to Emmerick and Julianna (nee Wachtler) Zimmer in Aka, Hungary. At the age of 21 months, Sebastian's family immigrated to Canada, arriving in Manitoba for 1 year, then moving to Annaheim and later on to the Muenster district. Sebastian attended Bunker Hill School near Annaheim. He worked on the family farm and during the winter months, found work in the logging camps in northern Saskatchewan and Ontario. In 1960, Sebastian took over the family farm which was located 7 miles South of Muenster and operated a mixed farm. In 1968, he also worked for the town of Humboldt on the Rec Board. On October 28, 1978, Sebastian married Anna Felix. The couple moved to the Felix farm in Bruno for two years, and then eventually returned to the Zimmer farm. In April of 1996, Sebastian and Anna moved to Humboldt. On March 19, 2001, Anna passed away. Due to failing health, eventually Sebastian made St. Mary's Villa his home. During his life, he enjoyed hunting, trapping, bowling, welding and mechanical work. In his spare time, Sebastian enjoyed playing cards with family and friends. He was active in the community. He ran the snow plow for the St. Gertrude Snow Plow Club. Sebastian was also a member of the Knights of Columbus in Humboldt; a member of the Saskatchewan Wildlife Federation, St. Peter's Branch; and was a former member of the St. Gertrude, St. Patrick and St. Scholastica church choirs. Throughout his life, Sebastian loved the farming lifestyle. He was blessed with a good wife and a loving family. He is survived by his 2 brothers: John (Dorothy) Zimmer of Lanigan; and Henry (Elaine) Zimmer of Muenster; sister-in-law, Helen Zimmer of Humboldt; numerous nieces and nephews; and by members of Anna's family, the Felix's. Sebastian was predeceased by his wife, Anna (nee Felix) Zimmer; his parents, Emmerick and Julianna (nee Wachtler) Zimmer; 2 sisters, Mary Marksteiner and Hermina Zimmer; 2 brothers, Joseph Zimmer and Emerich Zimmer; 3 sisters-in-law, Theresa Zimmer, Rose Zimmer and Mary Zimmer; and 2 brothers-in-law, John Marksteiner and Tony Buttinger. A Prayer Service for Sebastain was held on Monday, August 1, 2011, at 7:30 p.m., from St. Augustine R.C. Church, Humboldt, presided by Jenny Irwin with organist Dolores Hinz. Scripture readers were Annette Horvath and Lois Indzeoski and the eulogy was delivered by Bernie Doepker and Rita Bart. A Funeral Mass was offered at St. Augustine R.C. Church, Humboldt, on Tuesday, August 2, 2011, at 10:30 a.m., concelebrated by Fr. Emile April and Fr. Bernard Stauber. Music was provided by the Humboldt Choir and organist, Denise Germaine. Others taking part were: Marina Painter, cross bearer; Marilee Sterner and James Zimmer, scripture readers; Lorraine (Lori) Zimmer, intentions; RoseMarie Dosch and Lorraine Zimmer, gifts. An honor guard was formed by members of the Humboldt Knights of Columbus. Active pallbearers were: Damian Zimmer, Paul Felix, Jack Marksteiner, Brian Zimmer, Leonard Zimmer, Brian Bart. Interment followed at St. Augustine R.C. Cemetery, Humboldt. Memorial donations may be directed to either St. Mary's Villa or the St. Gertrude Cemetery Fund.
