Bjorkdale News: Student curlers having active season

The U9 Bjorkdale Bruins hockey team played against Tisdale, student curlers are preparing to compete in Nipawin and Archery is starting up at the Bjorkdale School.

BJORKDALE — The Under 9 Bjorkdale Bruins played against the Tisdale white team on Sunday, Feb. 5 at the Bjorkdale rink.

They played a great game with the score ending with a 6 – 4 loss. The under 9 bruins have two more games left in the regular season. The next game will be on Thursday Feb. 9 vs Nipawin Gold and Thursday, Feb. 16 vs Hudson Bay Black. There will be North East Minor Hockey League playoffs and the schedule has yet to be determined.

School curling has also been busy for the Bjorkdale students. Senior NESSAC is in Nipawin Feb. 8 and 9. Nolan Horn Jared Reid, Colton Babcock and James Van Hasstert are competing for the boys, while the senior girls are Grace Mohr, Austyn Shapansky, Gabriella Vecchio. Junior NESSAC has Remy Sirois, Rowan Curry and Garrett Babcock competing. Coaches this year are Joanne Schmidt for Juniors and Kim Slade for seniors.

Archery is starting up at the Bjorkdale School again this year. This is a sport that is available to all students. Penny Mohr is coaching this season.
