Bjorkdale News: Successful bonspiel at the rink

BJORKDALE — The Bjorkdale curling rink had a successful annual curling bonspiel this weekend with eight rinks participating.

At the Feb. 10 and 11 bonspiel, the Austin Hamel rink won the A-side with Damon Horn, Scott Spedding and Nathan Trombley. B-side winners were Nicole Goldsworthy, Jill Szeliga, Orin Bratton and Colleen Currey and the C-side winners were Lester Willerton, Shirley Bratton, Donna Lee and Lorelie Rummel. The teams were treated to a great meal provide by the volunteers within the community.

The Tisdale Trojans will be in Bjorkdale on Wednesday, Feb. 15 and have a “Skate with the Trojans” day from 4:15 – 6:30 p.m. Everyone is welcome to come skate, meet the team and the coaches and a hockey game will end the event for anyone who wants to participate. The booth will be open for anyone who would like to stop in and support the Bjorkdale Skating rink.

The Bjorkdale Bruins under 9 team played against Rose Valley Archerwill on Thursday, Feb. 2 and came up big with their first win of the season 2 -1. Cache Schpansky scored with just 15 second left in the third period to make this a memorable game for all the kids and fans. The Bjorkdale under 9 Bruins played host to the Nipawin gold team on Thursday, Feb. 9. They had a hard fought game with a final score of 13 to 5 for Nipawin. The final game for the Under 9 Bruins will be this Thursday, Feb. 16 at 5:30 p.m. at the Bjorkdale skating rink against the Hudson Bay Black.

The Bjorkdale School is hosting a Telemiracle tea on Tuesday, Feb. 14 at the Bjorkdale Hall. The kids will entertain and perform for the crowd and a bake sale will available and all the proceeds will go to Telemiracle.
