HUMBOLDT — City council has voted to move ahead with a budget plan that will feature around a 2.4 per cent tax levy increase and spends $1.8 million to complete work at Centennial Park. The proposed budget was approved at a special meeting Dec. 9.

MELFORT — A chimney fire in the RM of Kinistino is causing Melfort Fire and Rescue to remind people to clean their chimneys. On the morning of Dec. 3, Melfort Fire and Rescue was dispatched to a reported structure fire in the RM.

GUERNSEY — A train derailed west of Guernsey, sparking a fire. Highway #16 between Guernsey and Plunket has been closed because of a complete lack of visibility due to smoke. Humboldt-Lanigan RCMP are on the scene with CP Rail and Fire.

Two brothers were once convicted of stealing sheep and, in accordance with the brutal punishment of the time, were branded on the forehead with the letters “ST”, which stood for "sheep thief.

HUMBOLDT — The Humboldt Community Gathering Place is searching for ideas of how to attract a younger audience, including middle aged adults and adults as young as 18. The board of directors discussed this at their annual general meeting on Nov. 26.

CARROT RIVER — The Carrot River RCMP is asking for public assistance after the local co-op had their doors broken into and power tools stolen. The theft occurred at 5:44 a.m. on Dec. 1, and took a total of two minutes.

EAST CENTRAL — SaskTel will be increasing its 4G LTE bandwidth capacity for two towers in Melfort, one in Tisdale, one in Lanigan and one in Englefeld.
