Unity Composite High School hosted a retirement afternoon, May 23, to honour principal Maureen Robertson as she closes the book on a long and accomplished career.

The 24th annual Svoboda Dance Festival was held at the Dekker Centre for the Performing Arts May 2 to 4.

June - the month that is busy and full of activity as sporting events heat up in their competition for various titles, brides finish planning their weddings, grads prepare, the pool is open and school is winding down.

We were all shocked when we heard of the sudden death of Dorothy Ponto. She passed away in Lloydminster May 25 at the age of 80 years. Dorothy, as she was known to all, came to teach at Walter school.

Local dancers fared well at the 24th annual Svoboda Dance Festival held at the Dekker Centre for the Performing Arts May 2 to 4 where 40 solo awards, 35 duet awards, 24 group awards and six adjudicator's choice awards were available.

Rose Danychuk was pleased to have her sister Mildred and Len Prokop of Saskatoon spend a day with her. Marion Stoughton took me to Saskatoon for a medical appointment. She visited a short while with her daughter Collett and family.

Nature continues to surprise us. Recently one evening, I discovered a raccoon on my deck and decided it was time to buy an animal trap. After several days trying to catch the raccoon, I decided to concentrate on the squirrels.

Get set for a lively evening at the Chapel Gallery when Saskia and Darrel: Great Plains bring their Song of the Prairie show to the stage June 7 at 7 p.m.

It's almost mid-June and the month traditionally known for being one of the busiest, next to September and December, shows no sign of slowing down.

Yvette and Brian McGown of Belbutte celebrated their 65th birthdays, which are one week apart, on the evening of May 31 in the Belbutte community hall. There was a full house of well wishers who sang Happy Birthday as well as giving many cards.
