Unity Golf Club is very proud of junior member Justin Wood who competed in Junior Men's National Golf Championships in Surrey, B.C. last week.

Charnele Jellsion, Shirraya Tuscherer and Kelsey Wildeman, who played with the Kindersley Edge Realty Royals at the Midget B Western Canadian Softball Championships in Medicine Hat, enjoyed much success on the weekend.

In my last news report of August 3, 2011, I made a name mistake in the Vernon Custer 90th birthday STORY. Joyce's maiden name should have read Joyce Besse of Wilson Lake and not Blanchard. Sorry to all concerned.

For the first time farmers' markets will be held in Waseca. For this year, two have been planned: August 13 and 27. The markets will run from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. in the Waseca Community Centre.

More rain over the weekend will slow down haying operations which are already late. Other outdoor activities such as gardening are made more difficult with heavy rains. You will soon be seeing birds getting ready to go south for the winter.

The 15th Annual Polkafest took place in Hafford July 8 and 9. The weekend was full of activity that included dancing to three bands, a polka mass, pancake breakfast and a jam for local musicians.

The Classie Cardinals celebrated birthdays at Glenburn Regional Park, with entertainment by Carmel Country. Their music is smooth, yet toe-tapping, get-up-and-dance music.
