Art collectors take note

The perfect solution for an empty wall, the North Battleford Bonaventure Lions Club will host their 22nd Annual Art Auction and Dinner, Friday, March 18 at the Chapel Gallery.

The perfect solution for an empty wall, the North Battleford Bonaventure Lions Club will host their 22nd Annual Art Auction and Dinner, Friday, March 18 at the Chapel Gallery.

The art auction is a major fundraising initiative of the Bonaventure Lions, who use the proceeds to support local projects.

This year the proceeds will be donated to the CUPlex as part of the commitment made by the four Lions clubs in the Battlefords to the facility.

For the past 21 years, the work of Saskatchewan artists has been displayed at the annual art auction, and this year is no exception.

"We're very pleased with the generosity of the artists who have supported us," said Gail Morgan, a Bonaventure Lions Club member.

"They've made it possible for us to help fund many local projects."

This year's auction will feature the work of over 30 artisans, many of whom work and live in the Battlefords and area.

A highlight of the auction will be a piece by St. Walburg sculptor, Susan Velder. A few years ago, Velder donated several pieces of work, a number of which have been auctioned during the last few years.

This year, the club will put up for auction a piece titled Gwen, a life-size study of the human anatomy, completed in the early years of Velder's career.

Tickets for the 22nd Annual Art Auction and Dinner can be purchased at Fabricland or by calling Darrellene Lapp at 445-5810 or Joyce Ruzesky at 445-6409.
