Six John Paul II Collegiate students were named Crusader of the Month in December.

Honoured at the school's Dec. 21 Advent Mass were Division III Grade 9 students James Chipak, Katrina MacKinnon and Christy Rempel and Division IV students Haley Garden (Grade 11) , Kaylene McQuaid (Grade 12) and Colten Orgill (Grade 11).

Students are nominated based on criteria including demonstrating a real effort and desire to learn, involvement in school life and activities, involvement in church life and activities, respect for all school policies and personnel, friendliness and support for other students and active involvement in classroom activities

Four of these students participated in John Paul II's recent production of Oklahoma. Katrina, Christy, Kaylene and James are JP II students who shine on and off the stage, according to staff and peers. They committed hundreds of hours of rehearsal time and did so with a positive attitude or sacrificing any prior responsibilities.

Haley Garden's nominator recognized her a key role within the SRC. Haley is a constant source of energy. She provides leadership others can count on.

Colten Orgill received his award on the merits of the extra work he does with the student drumming group that meets weekly at John Paul II. Colten is the leader of the group. He teaches and mentors JPII students, as well as some elementary students who belong to the group.

"All six crusaders are excellent models of our Catholic Christian values," states a press release from the school. "Our school appreciates their generous gift of time and the model of leadership they provide."
