Summer sports are well underway. A number of people from Waseca have joined with Maidstone to form a slo-pitch team, and others have joined to organize a ladies' fastball team. It is quite a number of years since there has been a ladies' team in the area.

A rink committee for the coming year was organized at a meeting held at the rink May 2. Roger Haugrud is the new chairman. A number of activities have been planned, including a work bee in the near future. Watch for posters advertising these events.

Communities in Bloom are panning to complete the walking trail in the village this spring. Satellite dishes will be installed on the trail telling the story of Waseca. Five of these are ready to be put up. The ones depicting the history of the village, history of the churches, history of the elevators, the Barr Colonists and early Waseca businesses will be installed later this week. Some of the others to be done are the history of the CN railway station, schools, recreation facilities, the Waseca Royal Canadian Legion and others. Five benches have been ordered to install along the trail. These, together with the Barr Colonist monument and the natural sites along the way will make an interesting activity for those who enjoy walking.

Communities in Bloom also plan to have a gazebo built and memorial plaques installed in Snell Park this summer.

Waseca people have also bee involved in charity fundraisers in Maidstone recently. Kenneth and Carol Sutherland flipped pancakes at a breakfast in aid of the SPCA. Renee Donovan and Sandra Sutherland flipped pancakes at a yard sale in aid of the Pine Island Lodge activity fund.
