Weather conditions temporarily close Riverhurst Ferry operations

Weather conditions such as harsh winds put the ferry on the sidelines for the time being.

RIVERHURST -—The ferry at Riverhurst has been docked, according to the Saskatchewan Highway Hotline.

Due to weather conditions, the ferry has been temporarily closed as of this morning, Sept. 4. The Highway Hotline lists the ship's status as 'closed due to water level and/or weather'.

In relation to this development, many residents of the west central part of the province woke up this morning to harsh winds and unpredictable weather patterns.

While the Riverhurst crossing is not in operation, most other provincial ferries are continuing to run normal conditions or with light-load restrictions. Travellers are being advised to plan alternate routes and monitor updates from the Saskatchewan Highway Hotline.

The closure comes as part of routine safety precautions, with officials prioritizing public safety amid fluctuating river conditions and potentially hazardous weather.

At this time, the status of other ferries around the province remain mostly unaffected, with the Cecil, Clarkboro, Fenton, Hague, Lancer, Paynton, Saint Laurent, Weldon, Wingard, and Wollaston Lake Barge ferries all operating normally. Two other ferries, the Estuary and Lemsford vessels, are currently limited to light loads only.
