Baton twirling, fiddle playing part of performance at Dekker Centre

An award winning Canadian actor and comedienne will be on the Dekker Centre stage in North Battleford this weekend for a performance of her play, Miss Caledonia Dora and Canadian Comedy Award winner Melody A.

An award winning Canadian actor and comedienne will be on the Dekker Centre stage in North Battleford this weekend for a performance of her play, Miss Caledonia

Dora and Canadian Comedy Award winner Melody A. Johnson is the creator of this story of a young girl's dream of escaping the stall-cleaning, hay-baling drudgery of 1950s life on Rural Route 2 and becoming a movie star.

The performance will take place Saturday, Nov. 2 at 8 p.m.

Johnson, actor, comedienne, teacher, and director who grew up in Brantford, Ont., graduated with honours in theatre performance from York University. She is an alumna of The Toronto Second Citymain stage where she has also directed the National Touring Company, 0% Down, Second City for Mayor and their currently running 2013 hit, We've Totally Probably Got This. Comedic turns also includeAn Awkward Evening with Martin& Johnson with fellow alum Bob Martin (The Drowsy Chaperone). She has had numerous Dora nominations over the years and a win forthe title role of Mercy inLittle Mercy's First Murder/Tarragon-Shaw Festival.

Having performed from Brantford to Singapore, Johnson's favourite theatre credits include: Assassins, Birdland/MTC,7 Stories/ Theatre Calgary/CanStage (Betty Mitchell award nomination),Trout Stanley/Factory Theatre,In the Next Room Tarragon/MTC, Florence Gibson'sI Think I CanYPT/National Arts Centre, Our Town/Two Planks and a Passion (Merrit Award nomination), Blithe Spirit/Soulpepper, Habeus Corpus/Canstage,It's All True,The Seven Lears, Swollen Tongues, andThe Piper/Necessary Angel Theatre.
