Borden Care Home receives donation

Farm Credit Canada donated $8,300 to the Borden Care Home for the phase II expansion capital improvement project. Deanna Klusa from the North Battleford office of Farm Credit Canada presented the board of directors and manager of Borden Care Home with a cheque for $8,300. FCC provided the funding for the phase II expansion capital improvement project through their Agrispirit Fund, a community enhancement project.

Radisson Royal Purple members Audrey Baker, Linda Yuskiw and Lorraine Olinyk were at Borden School on March 24 to present cash prizes to winners in grades K to Grade 8, as well as Smarties and certificates to all students who entered the poster and essay contests on Addictions Awareness and Healthy Choices. Presentations to participating and winning students in Maymont were made March 28.

Winning posters going on to provincial competition in the Saskatchewan Elks contest are: Kindergarten and Grade 1, Ethan Manson, Maymont, Tearia Tracksell and Sadie Funk, Borden; Grades 2 and 3, Brooke Faith, Borden, Jada Schwartz, James Armistead and Hailey Harris, Maymont; Grades 4, 5 and 6, Dyllan Tracksell, Nikita Pascoe and Rachel Sutherland, Borden; Grades 7,8 and 9, Brooklyn Gader, Jasmne Bezugly, Mackenzie Piprell.

There were 126 poster entries from the two schools, as well as 20 essays from Grades 7 and 8 in Borden. Essays written by Duncan Sutherland, Jasmine Bezugly and Emma Prescesky are moving on to the provincial competition.

Borden Action Bowl held their annual banquet and awards night March 25, with close to 80 people out for a ham supper. A silent auction was also held with over 40 items up for bidding.

As many teams did not always have five players, there were not many awards handed out. Dianne and Vern Sylvester, operators for the winter, handed out the large trophies to the winning teams in the fall league:

55+, the Russian Thistles: Jean Sawchyn, Henry Derksen, Alan and Edna Carnahan and Bill Meakin;

mixed, No Name: Kandis and Jamie Brandrick, Karen and Dave Buckingham and Matt Fairbrother;

55+ roll-offs, the Dandelions: Jean Graham, Jean Hryniuk, Darlene Penner, Florence Neufeld and L. Olinyk;

mixed roll-offs, the Barth team: Alvin, Shaun and Nathan Barth, Ferne Hebig and Helen Beaudry.

High averages in the fall were Shaun Barth, Lorraine Olinyk, Bill Meakin and Jean Sawchyn.

For the winter league, the winners were Turkey Hunters: Ian and Mandy Tracksell, Fern Stevens, Ivan Youcezin and Don Block. The 55+ winning team was Misfits: Alex Kiepen, Clive Wensley, Vern Sylvester, Jean Sawchyn and Henry Derksen. The highest roll-off pinfall went to the Holy Bowlers: Wallace and Erin Bornhuse, Jason and Tina Farthing and Michelle and David White, while in 55+ it was the Russian Thistles who won the roll-off.

High averages were Ian and Mandy Tracksell, Vern Sylvester and Jean Sawchyn in 55+. Turkey pins went to Jason Farthing, Michelle White and Wallace Bornhuse, who also received 200 pins. A 250 pin went to Jason and Donovan Hebig. Each winner received a small prize and the youth, Emma, Deidre and Donovan Hebig each got a bag of chocolate coins.

Dianne and Vern presented Darlene Sperling with a gift for being the bookkeeper and Village councillors Jamie Brandrick and Ian Tracksell presentedDianne and Vern with a bouquet of flowers and a gift certificate to thank them for all their effort. Fall league operator David Wiebe was also thanked for his efforts.
