Soccer is winding down for the season. The girls' team travelled to Aberdeen for an exhibition game. They won this game. Their final event was the regional playoffs in North Battleford. They came up against some tough competition and were eliminated. They had an excellent season and their skills improved greatly. Thanks to Krista Nickell and Rachel McAllister for coaching the team this year.

The boys' team hosted Rosthern last week, but lost the game. They played in the regional playoffs in North Battleford. Although they lost to Thunderchild, they advanced to provincials in Middle Lake this weekend.

Junior volleyball teams will be playing in playoffs this weekend. The girls will play at the North Battleford Comprehensive High School and the boys will play at John Paul II. The teams must finish in the top two in order to advance to the next set of playoffs.

The SLC's magazine campaign is finished for the year. Thanks to everyone who supported this campaign and the students and their families for selling the subscriptions. The SLC held a candy guess last week. For 25 cents, anyone could guess the number of candies in a jar. Brooke Ferris, Grade 5, was the winner. Her guess was 350 and there were 338 in the jar. Congratulations, Brooke. She shared a candy with each of her classmates and her teacher.

The fundraising committee sold tickets for Football Saskatchewan. The school receives a percentage of the ticket sales. The proceeds will go towards purchasing a sign for the front of the school to announce upcoming events. Thanks to everyone for selling and purchasing the tickets. Hopefully someone will win the trip to the Grey Cup game in Regina.

Education Week was celebrated this week. A delicious breakfast of fresh fruit and muffins was served to staff, students, bus drivers and community members. Monday was Bus Driver Appreciation Day. Most of the elementary classes made cards of thanks and presented them to their bus drivers at the breakfast. We are all thankful to them for delivering our students to and from school safely. Thanks to the staff who came to school early to prepare the breakfast.

Buddy reading, which matches the younger students with older students for half an hour of reading, was another activity. The younger students enjoy hearing books read by the students in the higher grades.

Friday afternoon, a team building activity was held. Students were divided into teams and participated in a building contest with balloons. The staff also had a team.

Our sympathies are extended to our colleague, Peter Halvorsen, on the passing of his father-in-law. Our thoughts are with Peter and his wife, Marliese.

Next week should be an exciting week as the students prepare for Halloween. Hopefully, they have warm weather for their excursions.
