Borden Grade 5 and 6 students created posters for the Radisson Royal Purple Healthy Choices contest. With the students are Mr. Gartner and Royal Purple member Audrey Baker.

Borden Friendship Club held their March potluck supper March 28, with over 35 out to enjoy the variety of dishes. Happy Birthday was sung to Art and Doreen Flath, Martha Rempel and Terry Petriew; then the cake brought by Elizabeth Derksen was enjoyed for dessert. Ed Neufeld introduced Rose Mandziak, who favoured everyone with two songs - Could I have this Dance? and I Don't Want You.

Heather Silcox spoke about the museum, stating that the students hired the last two summers had compiled photos and stories about Homes with a History, and there were two CDs available to purchase - one on the rural homes and one about homes in the Village of Borden. A video was then shown of early Borden, which was very interesting - starting back in 1903 to the 1950s. This video(or DVD) is available to borrow from the museum. Anyone wishing to purchase the CD of Homes with a History can contact Heather at 997-4919.

Lily Lucyk from Radisson celebrated her 101st birthday March 20. She received congratulatory cards from the Queen, Premier Wall and Prime Minister Harper. Lily has been residing with her daughter Zora Jackson in Ottawa since October, 2007, following the passing of her husband Bill. Each summer she has returned to her home in Radisson. Lily is in good health and a month ago she travelled by car to Florida with Zora to visit a friend, Martha Hein, who used to also live in Radisson. Lily is looking forward to attending the 100-year celebrations in Radisson and Hafford, as she lived in Hafford before moving to Radisson with Bill in 1965 where they operated a MacLeod's store for several years.

Radisson Royal Purple sponsors a Healthy Choices Poster, Literary and Video Contest every year. At their Feb. 6 meeting members judged 83 posters from Borden and Maymont Schools and watched the Borden Grade 12 video on CD. After being away for three weeks, I finally got the certificates done and, March 30, Audrey Baker and Lorraine Olinyk went to Borden School and presented every entrant with Smarties and a certificate and prize money for the winners in Grades 1 - 6 and the Grade 12 girls.

Winners at Borden were: Grade 1, first - Noah Braun and second - Katelyn Worona; Grade 2, first - Chloey Redhead, second - Tearia Tracksell, third - Teddie Cutting; Grade 3: first - Brooke Faith, second - Nicole Nemanishen, third - Savannah Sutherland and Levi Gough; Grade 4: first - Zach Martens, second - Spencer Thiessen, third - Angel Tracksell; Grade 5: first - Brooke Brazeau, second - Danika Pidwerbesky, third - Jeremy Haidenger; Grade 6: first - Rachel Sutherland, second - Kirsten Szwydky, third - Natalie Anderson.

The four girls in Grade 12 doing the video were Danielle Skillingstad, Danielle Brown, Courtney Wainwright and Robynn Pidwerbesky and this video went on to provincials. In the posters, the ones sent to provincials from Borden were Noah's for kindergarten and Grade 1, Chloey's and Brooke Faith's for Grade 2/3 and Brooke Brazeau's, Danika's and Rachel's for Grades 4/5/6.

We will be going to Maymont Central School this coming week and the write-up for them will be in next week's paper.
