March 7, the Unity Chamber of Commerce hosted a "Celebrate Unity" evening with dinner and a comedian.

All committees who put on an event in 2010 were invited, as well as those who established new businesses in 2010. The public joined this group to acknowledge the work of volunteers who put Unity on the provincial, national and international map this past year and a half.

A person does not realize the amount of activity this community has had until you review the 'grand entry' footage from our CTV hometown tour and see the number of events printed on signs.

Besides big name events like the Riderville bid, Western Canadian Midget boys' and girls' softball championship, Provincial 4A girls' volleyball and Communities in Bloom, there were many smaller activities throughout the year to round out the flavour of events held in Unity.

As well as acknowledging these events, the Chamber acknowledged new businesses during the evening's events as well as long serving businesses like Sperle Tire that has been in business 40 years through two generations. Mon Gee Wellness Spa, Dr. Duane Clark, chiropractor and Moon Chung were all honoured for 30 years in business.

Irene and Lorne Action and Ken and Sadie Green were honoured for their long standing role in their community that included many volunteer hours in various service groups and committees.

Teachers Pat Orobko and Ken Parker were also acknowledged for going above and beyond their duties as teachers to mentor and lead kids in their community, as well as volunteer on the many events held this year.

Following a fantastic supper, the crowd was treated to comedic entertainment and singing by Bob Leslie from Wilkie.

At the close of the evening several draws were made with the most unique win being a champagne tour/hot air balloon evening ride over Saskatoon donated by CTV Saskatoon. The winners were Don and Edith Wallace.
