Halloween may not be until next week, but this coming weekend, you can get into the Halloween "spirit" with a couple of notable events.
Saturday, Oct. 26, you can take your pick between an indoor/outdoor event sure to spook you out, or head to a family oriented event that's more pumpkin related than scary.
Starting at 6 p.m. and running until 10 is the Western Development Museum's Great Pumpkin Masquerade and Family Dance. You can take your family to this event for a 20 dollar bill. Last year's event attracted 735 visitors. (It should be noted that children under 12 must be accompanied by an adult.)
On the agenda are "ghoulish" crafts, games, a "spooky" concession and even a junior haunted house. The Comp in Action Haunted Tour is an extra $2, put on by an extracurricular club of North Battleford Comprehensive High School students.
There will also be a pumpkin gallery, which has proved popular in the past, and if you bring a carved or decorated pumpkin with you, you will receive two dollars in WDM Bucks.
And what's a Halloween party without a costume parade. There will be prizes for the best family costumes and for the three best children's costumes.
This event enjoys community partnerships through which this fun, safe family event is organized each year.
For something a little spookier, there is an event for ages 13 and older going on at Fort Battleford, also on Oct. 26.
Topping off the regular Ghost Walk series at the Fort, this tour will take you through five buildings, each with a different spooky theme.
Things get started at 8 p.m. and will run until midnight. The cost for this event is $14.70 per person.
New to the event this year is a beer gardens to be held inside the visitor centre, hosted by Friends of Fort Battleford.
If Halloween celebrations aren't up your alley, how about a bit of live theatre.
The Cochin Community Players will be presenting a special premiere performance of A Grain of Truth, by local playwright Betty Ternier Daniels. Ternier Daniels is a founding member of Cochin Community Players and a board member of Saskatchewan Playwrights Centre. A Grain of Truth is the third play that she has both written and directed for CCP.
The production, which features local actors Roxanne Irvine, Janice Sanford Beck, Barry Ursaki and Jim Walls, runs in Cochin on Oct. 26 and 27. Call 306-480-0933 for more information.
