The countryside has been a Christmas card of beauty this past weekend as the heavy hoar frost was loaded on the trees and everything outside was so heavily coated it just had to drop off like snow, as the air moisture lessened on Monday. The temperatures have been pretty fair, too, so every nice day makes the winter that much shorter.
A blizzard was raging in most of Alberta Monday. They are having a real taste of winter all through central and southern Alberta. A few days ago a friend in Calgary was boasting about the Chinook they were having.
There are lots of birds at the feeders these days. Not the brightly coloured pine and evening grosbeaks like we had up north, but lots of chickadees and some sparrows, and both kinds of nuthatches - the rose breasted and the white breasted. Suet feeders have the downy and hairy woodpeckers. They are all fun and interesting to watch .
The Sons of Norway played Norwegian Whist Nov. 29 at the lawn bowling club house in North Battleford. The top score was won by Linda Ard, second by Vernon Iverson and a tie for third by Elmo Colwell and Arlene Walker.
There was a trailer fire in Meota last week and the couple who were living in it, and work at the hotel, lost all their belongings. They are Gemma Minniti and Jake Knuttila. You can make donations at the hotel, as they need everything, to start over. They are staying in a suite in the hotel until they find new accommodations.
The Meota Lions Christmas light competition will be judged Friday, Dec. 20 in the evening, so be sure to have your lights turned on.
The monthly hall luncheon will be amalgamated with Santa Day Saturday, Dec. 14 at the Meota Community Complex. All ages are welcome. The day starts with noon lunch after which the Lions Chorus will entertain until 2 p.m. when Paul Runalls and the Prairie Sailor Band will entertain, until the guest of honour arrives.
The Monday evening contract bridge winners Dec. 2 were Linda Ard and Robert Iverson.
We are still trying to get Kaiser games going on Friday, Dec. 6 and Dec. 20, at 2 p.m. You don't have to be an expert to join in and play for fun. The more the merrier.
