EAST CENTRAL — Cumberland College saw off another year of graduates with their own hopes and dreams.
Melfort had about 58 graduates, Tisdale had about 30 grads and Nipawin had about 39.
Brenda Mellon, manager of marketing and continuing studies, said this last year went well for the three branches.
“We had a lot of different programs available through the college region, from health-related programming, to trades, to business, and adult basic education or high school upgrading.”
For the first time, Cumberland College offered a building system technician program for students in Melfort.
Mellon said for any graduate that reads this, that it’s the right moment to take the time to celebrate their successes from this year and follow their passion “wherever it may lead them”.
When Sherilyn Coates, advisor with the Tisdale campus of the Cumberland College, was asked what her favorite moment was from this year with the class, she didn’t have just one.
“In Tisdale, we really celebrate attendance, we celebrate birthdays, we celebrate,” Coates said. “We go to the good food box and one of the guys wears the same floral apron every day, every time.”
“That’s what we do in Tisdale, build community.”
Coates said the graduating class of Tisdale has been through some tough times this year with the loss of a student.
“But we pulled together as a community,” Coates said. “It was amazing how we pulled together as a group and really supported each other through those times.”
