As I mentioned once before, the area along the lake to the north of the present Sparrow subdivision is going to be undergoing some development to get it ready for a new subdivision. Kadon Industries is developing this subdivision with the intent on it being an upscale area. There will be curbs and pavement which will be an added incentive to those wishing to build in the new lots. There is to be a new service road built to provide access to the properties so the slope to the main road will make property access better than the steep slopes of some of the properties in the present neighbouring lots.
Kadon has the title to all of the property on both sides of Second Avenue and have already moved a lot of the soil that will be located at the lower part of the development. There are going to be, at present, 29 lots set up along the lakeshore and pre-selling will be starting soon once they have finalized some of their calculations. Sheldon Foss, who is in charge of the project, tells me they are going to be attending numerous trade shows where they will be presenting the development to prospective customers and they have had some good interest shown to this point already. They expect that there will be some building activity starting in the early to mid-point of next year.
For now, work has stopped until into next year when they will have some service crossing to do since there are a couple of major SaskTel lines in the upper part of the property. All properties are to be tied into the sewer and water infrastructure of the village. Further development of the upper portion has not been completed so at this point they are not divulging the second phase publicly but I am told by our mayor the overall plan is exciting for the future of Meota. Kadon Industries has been involved in other developments in the past, so they are not amateurs in the business of setting up this type of subdivision and from what I have been told they show great vision in their work.
There has also been some excavation taking place at the regional park over the last while. This was done to add power service to another 30 sites and also to bring the water supply closer to the group of sites. The park now has about 100 sites available with all but a few in the very back row that are not serviced by electricity.
Work is also about to start in Metinota on a grey water sewer line that will connect them to the lagoon that was put into service over the last couple of years. The contractor is intent on doing some trenching yet this year and the project will probably be finished sometime early next year. Each residence will still have their own septic tank but will be able to send the largest part of their tank volume via a grinder pump into the grey water line and they will not have the worries of planning and organizing pump outs. They may still need the odd pump out to eliminate solids from their tanks.
Again this past week, our volunteer fire department had to swing into action to attend a fire call at about 8:30 p.m. A house on the corner of Main Street and Railway Avenue caught fire. The source seems to have been caused electrical. SaskPower was on site to check out a problem and smelled smoke, so the call was sent out. The firefighters had to cut into the roof to gain access to the fire and had it out in fairly short order. Again, thank you on behalf of all of us to our local volunteer fire department.
In card play Nov. 24, Kaiser was the game with Linda Ard placing first, Herman Hoogland coming in second, a tie was set up involving third and fourth places between Irene Carlson and Beulah Corbeil. Then, Nov. 25, in canasta, the winners were Pat Chapman and Fred Gansauge. In contract bridge play Nov. 21, Terrence DaSilva took first spot and Jette DaSilva came in second. Nov. 29, Linda Ard placed first with Jette DaSilva coming second. In duplicate bridge Nov. 22, the team of Bea Novlan and Ray Davie took first place with Glenn and Julie Moore coming in second. Nov. 28, first place went to Mary Greenwald and Frank Antoine with Glenn and Julie Moore again taking second.
