The Battlefords Early Childhood Community Planning Network is hosting an event on National Child Day Wednesday, Nov. 20 at 2 p.m. at the Chapel Gallery.

The "Right to be Heard" is the focus of this year's National Child Day. This theme has special significance for the early years when children begin developing critical language and communication skills. Included in this event will be an oral presentation of the Battlefords Children's Charter by children from the Battlefords.

The City of North Battleford and Town of Battleford endorsed the charter in April. In addition, as part of the city's 100th celebration, the charter was presented to Mayor Ian Hamilton and placed in the time capsule for future generations to see. A copy will be presented to the City of North Battleford and the Town of Battleford.

The Battlefords Children's Charter sets out a vision for children, everyone under the age of 18 years old, to have the freedom to grow as individuals. It is based on the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child that states, "rights are things that every child should have or be able to do."

We all have a responsibility to support families so all children can live, learn, play and dream in safe and healthy surroundings, according to Battlefords Early Childhood Community Planning Network.
