Exercise facility moves to spacious new venue

The Meota exercise facility has made a move to one of the classrooms of the recycled Meota School building. Here Robert Iverson and Terrence DaSilva test out a couple of the machines after the move while Frank Antoine looks on. Thanks guys for working so hard to make the move.

This past week saw a change of venue for the Meota exercise facility. This work out gym has been in operation for a few years and has been a great addition for quite a few folks in the community.

Even so, the costs of rental and utilities have been causing it to run on a shoestring. This past week, all of the equipment was moved to an area that used to be one of the classrooms at Meota School. The school was taken over by the village with part of the front becoming the Meota Village office and another of the former classrooms transformed into the local library.

After renovations to the building, which also saw a large meeting room set up, there was still one classroom untouched and sitting idle. With the inclusion of the exercise facilities now in residence within the building all space within the old school is now in full use.

To me this move is a winning combination for all involved. The area of the building that has now been put to use was empty space that was still being heated and costing money that was serving no direct purpose. With the new residents paying rent for the space, the costs are now being put to good use and there is a savings to the community's tax base.

The exercise facility is in a less crowded space with a little better rental rate and is in better shape, not having to scramble as much to meet commitments. Even though I am not able to make use of the equipment there I do realize the benefit to this village and it is possible that with the less crowded facility, more people will feel comfortable making use of the varied and high quality machines there.

It was interesting to watch the move take place (every job needs a foreman making sure things are done right). The move was accomplished mainly by the volunteer efforts of three gents who, though slightly long in the tooth, were in no way lacking in enthusiasm and energy. We have to say thanks to these fellows who stepped up to the plate to make it happen. As usual, it takes those members of any community, who are always ready to donate their time to see things happen and quite often they are the retired folks who still have a lot to give, who get things done.

In Kaiser action at the Do Drop Inn on Sept. 28, first place was cornered by Ken Tucker, second went to Jean Gansauge, Linda Ard came third and Beulah Corbeil placed fourth.

Sept. 28 canasta was played with Bev McCrimmon and Fred Gansauge winning the day. Oct. 3 in contract bridge play, Joyce Antoine came in first with Frank Antoine taking second place. Then, on the fourth in duplicate Bridge, the team of Glenn and Julie Moore took top honours with a tie for second between the team of Bernie and Lucille Gregoire and Jim Hamilton and Bea Novlan.
