Free Monday morning exercise class.

Every Monday at 10 a.m., for half an hour, there will be In Motion exercises in the Friendship Club room, taught by Audrey Baker, who has taken training for six weeks. There is no cost for this class.

Local cattle owners did well at Canadian Western Agribition Nov. 11- 16 in Regina.

Clythe Mane Shorthorns - Glenn, Sheri, Duncan and Rachel Sutherland from Borden - entered four animals. Rachel's yearling bred heifer, Clythe Mane Tillie 30Z, placed second in the 2012 female class and sold in the purebred shorthorn sale for the top price of $8,900. In the shorthorn show, their bull calf Clythe Mane AXFL placed first and two heifer calves placed fourth and sixth.

McIntosh Cattle Co. - Blair and Stephanie from Maymont - had entries in the Simmental show. In the female born between Jan. 1 and May 31, 2013, Cleopatra 21A placed first, was the senior division reserve champion and sold for $10,500. Sugar Rush 298A placed second in class and sold for $5,750. Their female born in 2012 entry was third in class. A bull calf was fifth in split 5 class and another bull calf was third in its class.

Serhienko/Voegeli Cattle Co. of Maymont had five entries in the Charolais show, winning first and senior division reserve champion female born in 2013 with SVY Starstruck 324A. In the 2013 bull calves, SVY Skyfall was first in split class and SVY Uproar, SVY Boss, and SVY Empire were all fourth in their split classes. A 2012 bull Serhienko Cattle Co has in partnership with Rollin Acres Charolais of Mulmur, Ont.- Rollin Acres Zach -was first and the junior champion.

Borden School held their book fair Nov. 13, with parents of K- 6 having a free hotdog lunch with their children. Then the students had a short program. Kindergarten and Grade 1 spoke about books to read. Grades 2 and 4 and Grades 5 and 6 presented poems or stories on why you should read books and go to the library.

The students could then browse and pick up books, posters, pencils, etc., that they would like to buy. Before and after the program, Avery Fairbrother played guitar and sang to entertain the students and guests.

Book fair sales were over $1,500 so the school gets $800 worth of free books. Winning $25 for the Grade 7 and 8 room was Danika Pidwerbesky.

The Borden senior boys played well at volleyball regionals in Outlook Nov. 16, winning their first game in pool A, but losing their second to Medstead. In the semifinal against Dinsmore, they lost two sets to one but only by a few points in each game.

Borden Dance Club's Christmas recital was held Nov. 16 in the Borden Community Centre, with dessert from 6 - 7 p.m. or during intermission. Many silent auction baskets were donated by parents and businesses. The 50/50 draw of $204 was won by Kevin Prescesky of Radisson, who donated it all back to the club.

The stage backgrounds were decorated in stars and snowflakes on black. The tables were covered in black cloths with candles. MC was Robynn Pidwerbesky who welcomed everyone and afterwards thanked all the dancers, instructors Miss Amy and Miss Kaylee, the village and the Friendship Club for their support, all the parents, the donors of auction items and all volunteers who helped stage the production.

In the recital, the jazz 1 group of Hannah, Ava, Cheyanne, Sydney and Asi danced to Five More Days 'Til Christmas while jazz 2 - Breanna, Danika, Leanne, Rachel, Abigail, Savannah, Natalie and Kirsten - danced to Winter Wonderland. The same girls, except for Savannah who did a hip hop number to The Christmas Groove, used Carol of the Bells for their tap 2 dance. Savannah also danced a lyrical dance with Terri to Christmas Shoes.

Blue Christmas was chosen for jazz 3 - Terri, Nikita, Emma, Sara and Emma. Except for Nikita, the girls also performed a ballet number to Swans. Kristie and Mackenzie joined in for hip hop 3, The Christmas Groove.

The tiny tots - Kenzie, Abbey, Kyra, Alia, Alexis, Jasmine, Piper, Kyler, Lyla, Kailee and Zoe - were the hit of the evening, performing to Frosty the Snowman.

The tap 1 class - Julia, Katelyn, Ava, Kyra, Hannah, Cheyanne, Sydney, Asia and Nicole - tapped to Run Run Rudolph, while Kyra, Asia and Julia in ballet 1 danced to Promises to Keep. Matthais, Amber, Nicole, Ovidio, Savannah, Katelyn and Brooke hip hopped A Hip Hop Carol.

Ballet 2 dancers Leanne, Rachel, Natalie, Danika and Savannah performed to Dreams are More Precious. A ballet/tap combo of younger students - Talon, Jasmyn, Brielle, Julia H., Jade, Alexandra, Grace, Darbi and Taiya - used Christmas in the Ocean for their dance music.

Students come from Borden, Langham, Hafford and Radisson and the instructors are from Saskatoon.

The Borden Lions held their annual turkey supper Nov. 17 in the Borden Community Centre, with the proceeds going to the Crabb family and to Lions' projects in the community. Only about 125 came out to enjoy the delicious meal, with attendance down probably due to the inclement weather and to the Rider game although people could watch the game on the big screen TV in the Seniors' Room.

Radisson recreation board's beef supper is Nov. 23, from 5 - 7 p.m. in the Radisson Hall.

For all those post-secondary students from Borden and Langham, there is still time to get your application in to the Borden Lions for their $500 scholarship. The deadline is Jan. 14, 2014. Application forms are available from Borden or Langham schools or from Lions members John Buswell, Sharon Assman or Wendell Dyck.
