Frenchman Butte Museum hosts a traditional high tea May 21 in honour of Queen Elizabeth's 60th year on the throne.

The Frenchman Butte Museum has the honour of extending a special invitation to you, on behalf of the Queen Elizabeth 2012, Diamond Jubilee celebrations at Canadian Heritage.

This very prestigious event, a Victoria Day high tea, is in celebration of the 60th anniversary of the Queen's coronation and will be provided in the tea house of the Frenchman Butte Museum May 21.

This event will be hosted at in the tea house from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. in a come and go format, with special event presentations made by dignitaries commencing at 1 p.m. Everyone is invited to this complimentary event, and ladies attending will find wearing a special spring hat a most appropriate way, as the Queen does, to dress for the occasion. The hosting volunteer members of the Museum Society also intend on appearing in appropriate attire as they serve the visitors in the facility.

The museum will be open to the public for tours during the day, your unique opportunity to visit a robust, growing exhibition of our Canadian heritage. There are other events planned, some that may interest younger potential participants.

The museum is inviting school students to participate in a scholastic school competition, the criteria varying with age. The first event is a kindergarten-Grade 1 colouring competition of Diamond Jubilee themed drawings, which are available from the museum. In the Grade 2-3 category, the task is to create a card for the Queen, folded from a single eight and a half by 11 inch page of paper. Its topic is congratulating the Queen on her Diamond Jubilee. Grades 4-6 are invited to write an essay or poem based on a theme of the role of the Crown in Canada. Grades 7-12 are asked to interview a special person of their choice on the topic of royal memoires they hold dear, or what the Crown means to them, and enter the typed manuscript of that 15-minute conversation.

Prizes are being provided to each of the age category winners who will be announced during the day's ceremonies. More detailed information is available from the Frenchman Butte Museum through Carol Light, 825-2034, or Heidi Hougham, 825-3493. The deadline for all entries is May 14.

This royal event, sponsored in conjunction with the 2012 Diamond Jubilee event program at Canadian Heritage is the premier event that kicks off this year's operations at the Frenchman Butte Museum. We invite you to participate, enjoy the day with us and consider becoming involved in the Museum Society. It provides an opportunity to learn of the past, participate in new and interesting activities and enjoy the company of others with similar interests. Our western heritage is a valuable resource that provides an insight into what and who we are as Canadians.

Beginning with the Victoria Day weekend, the Frenchman Butte Museum will be open Saturday and Sunday, 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. May and June are school tour months and a few dates are still available for class visitations by contacting Colleen at 344 4947.
