St. Vital School student leaders, Grade 7 students Kalie, Amy, Emily, and Nicolas, pose with the school's Brick by Brick mural.

Pillow fights, fish pond, wheelbarrow rides, face painting and good old-fashioned fun filled St. Vital School Nov. 29.

Student leaders organized the event as a fundraiser for the Battleford Empty Stocking Fund and educational needs in developing countries through Free the Children. Close to $2,000 was raised with approximately 250 people in attendance.

When St. Vital students attended We Day this past October, they were inspired by Free the Children's year long goal to build 200 schools in developing countries. In support of this "Brick by Brick" project, students designed a mural representing the amount needed for one wall of a school.

It takes $10,000 to build one school so students are initially setting their sights on the amount needed for one wall with the potential goal of aiming higher if able to complete the one wall goal. Paper bricks are posted on the mural for every $20 raised.

After fun night the students need only 51 more bricks to complete the mural representing one wall.

Classrooms are collecting coins with small prizes or incentives provided by the school's SLC for every brick posted as a result of classroom efforts.

To support St. Vital students with this project, donations are accepted at the school office. Bricks are posted in recognition of donations.
