Mailboxes stolen, vandalized

Vandalism to mailboxes in the Bjelde Creek and Beljennie areas has occurred. Why would anyone go out and steal mail boxes and knock others over? There seems to be a lot of unknown vehicles in the area.

There seems to be a lot of unknown vehicles in the area. Earlier in the year there was two break ins at the local community centre. The inside was vandalized as well as the door being broken. One or two items were missing. The RCMP were notified.

Get well wished to Doreen Parkinson and Tom Rayner of North Battleford who have spent some time at Battlefords Union Hospital. They are both formerly from Baljennie.

Sympathy and our deepest thoughts go out to the Wintersgill family of the local area and Battleford on the recent passing of 97-year-old Mary Agnes Wintersgill. Mary and her husband Bernard spent many years farming in the Baljennie area. They raised a family of nine children, who all attended Rayner Heights School. Mary and Bernard moved to Battleford in 1975. When Bernard passed away in 1992, Mary moved to Saskatoon to be closer to members of her family. Mary and Bernard were active community people while living here.

The weatherman has been telling us about snow flurries. Our area had a dump of close to four inches. Cooler temperatures make it feel like winter is upon us.

The bush rabbits and weasels have their winter white coats on. The chipmunks are hibernating. They were active in our yard all fall, hauling in all sorts of seeds for the winter.

We recently went through a time change throughout most of Canada except for the province of Saskatchewan. We are so fortunate not to make that big change fall and spring. I'm sure we are all satisfied to keep it that way. It has worked out well for us all. Why is there so much fuss over it?

Glenn Peters of Rainbow Lake, Alta. has been visiting in our area and travelled to Assiniboia to visit his mother, Louise Peters.

A November meeting of the RM of Glenside recreation board, to be held at the home of Dixie Dehr of Lizard Lake, had to be cancelled. The next meeting will be in early January at Joan Rayner's of Baljennie.

White-tailed deer hunting season is open in the area. Mule deer are outnumbering white-tailed deer. The mule deer tend to chase out their white-tailed cousins.

Most back roads and fields are open to travel for hunters. There appears to be healthy numbers of deer about as well as hunters. Farmers thank all the hunters who ask permission to hunt on their land. Then there are others who do not care where they go to hunt. Those fellows all need the boot and to learn the rules of hunting.

Activity at our bird feeders picked up once the colder weather arrived. Flashy red male pine grosbeaks and the more dull grey females have been feeding regularly on the canola seeds. Also seen are blue jays, red polls and pine siskins. The little chickadees like the sunflower seeds. It's a daily task to add more seeds to the feeders.
