Let it snow? The motorists on highways through many parts of Saskatchewan and Alberta may not agree. On Nov. 3, over 80 vehicles hit the ditch in the Maidstone area as told by Maidstone RCMP.
Highways were closed from Lloydminster to Maidstone and travel was not recommended further east while the strong winds blew and wet blowing snow drifted and accumulated. A jackknifed semi caused traffic to slow down on the curved part of Highway 16 just outside of Paynton where people get taken by surprise each year. The banked curve is not ideal for winter conditions, causing motorists to lose control and go off the road, sometimes just sliding but other times rolling.
Keep in mind when travelling this winter to slow down and be aware of the dangers before you hit the trail. Look up the Government of Saskatchewan website to check road conditions and that of any other province you may be visiting. An emergency roadside kit including blankets, candles, food and a shovel can keep you going until help arrives but hopefully you will never need it.
