Museum is a jewel on the prairie

The Clayton McLain Memorial Museum is a jewel on the prairie. The 13 buildings in the complex provide a remarkable glimpse into the history and culture of our community.

The Clayton McLain Memorial Museum is a jewel on the prairie. The 13 buildings in the complex provide a remarkable glimpse into the history and culture of our community. The museum always needs volunteers to help with projects, and some volunteer jobs don't take much time at all.

With support from the museum members, the Duvall house was finished to a point where a successful grand opening was hosted in August. About 75 people attended and it seemed everyone was happy with the outcome. The work experience students helped to do some interior painting in the station house office as well as Ovenstown office. They also helped with Canada Day preparation and some outdoor painting. A new ramp and step has been completed for the Duval House. The office area and sales shop has been created in Ovenstown, and the roof of the stationhouse has been shingled. The summer staff painted the medical building and did touch ups on the Gallivan School. More windows in the stationhouse and store have had the low-e film applied to them and part of the archives building has been painted.

For 2011, the museum is planning to paint the Raymond's Store and possibly the rest of the archive building. Photos and family trees have been received from some families in the area, and the work to move the archives to the museum office will continue. Research into the history of the older homes in our town is in progress, and the plan is to compile the information and photos and provide them with a walking tour for the Cut Knife centennial celebrations.

More tables have been sold for the upcoming trade show. There are going to be tables with car accessories, quad accessories, mud tires, rims, grills box covers, exhaust systems and much more. A photographer is going to be at the trade show and Rose City Memorials are having a display of monuments as well.

The firefighters of Cut Knife burned a house down, north of the town, early Sunday evening as a fire practice. It was to show the new firefighters the proper techniques on entering a building and how to properly ventilate before entering a burning building. The correct use of all the equipment and basic safety has also been practised. The firefighters were shown suppression techniques and how fire behaves, as well as forcible entry techniques.

They are alsotrying to raise some money for the Canada Day festivities. The Town of Cut Knife puts on a firework display each year, and the firefighters are trying to help out with that. When you see the old fireman's helmet at SGI, please feel free to donate.

The seniors of Cut Knife are having a potluck on Saturday at the seniors' centre. A Lenten Lunch will be held March 23.
