NCS presents A Christmas Peter Pan

The elementary students at Neilburg Composite School held a delightful Christmas concert Dec. 14 in the gym. It was based on the story of Peter Pan by J. M. Barrie. A Christmas Peter Pan was written and adapted by Kathryn Schultz Miller.

Manitou Evangelical Free Church celebrated Christmas by presenting the cantata, Let the Music Sing Into Your Heart, Dec. 18. Kim Putnam, Shaelyn Putnam, Claire Graham and Gordon Allen were the actors, with another dozen voices in the choir.  Hazel Wiens and Clifford Scott accompanied the singers on the electric piano and the organ. The Sunday School children also performed poems they had memorized as part of the program. A bountiful lunch was served afterwards with much visiting following and treat bags for the children.

Carl Cammidge and D. J. Becotte welcomed everyone to the program and announced each item. After the singing of O Canada, the kindergarten class sang the Reindeer Boogie and Rockin' Around the Christmas Tree.

Then it was time for the musical. Eugene Rathwell was Santa Claus. Colton Walde and Francie Peters were Stinky Garbage Trucks, while William Downie was a Bigfoot robot. Lauren Rutherford and Justina Siemens were Barbie dolls and Shana Flicek and Anna Giesbrecht represented crayons. Carson Peters was Terry the Pterodactyl (dinosaur). Santa's reindeer were dramatized by Taeya Wiens, Dianne Dimaano, Mckenna Goodfellow, Isobel Ramsay-Mackenzie, Devon Whitney and Kale Worman. Skylar Stewart and Raegan Husch shared the part of Tinkerbell. The gang of pirates were comprised of Kaylyn Koch, Jared O'Grady, Brady Horvath, Frank Siemens and Eduard Borja. Devon Whitney was also Nana, the dog.

A group of dancing snow fairies were presented by Ethel Borja, Hallie Goodfellow, Ann Hewko, Tidja Hoeppner-Basha, McKenzie Horvath, Paige Johnston, Hannah O'Grady and Helen Siemens. Santa's elves were Shay Brovchenko, Zcharles Dimaano, Joseph Flicek, Konnor Hiscock, Brayden Koch, Henry Peters, Ashton Schmidt and Braxton Snell.

Carter Cammidge was the father and Hannah Prystupa was the mother. Three students shared the role of Peter Pan - Craig Hewko, Carl Sawtell and Wyatt Marshall. Jorin Black and Dianne Dimaano were Wendy. Henry Rempel and Johnn Peters portrayed John, while Jacob Peters and Clayton Schmidt were Michael. Smee was also played by Clayton Schmidt, assisted by Dustin Spence. Captain Hook was Colton Schmidt and Lindsay Gibbons. Bennie Siemens was the dreaded crocodile.

After the musical the kindergarten students put on a short nativity play. Emily Peters was Mary and Nick Hein was by her side as Joseph. The angels were Quinn Flicek, Cassidy Spence, Sara Williams and Kailee Johnston. The three wise men were Tristan Ducherer, Gus Wightman and Evan Sawtell. Ramsay Flicek, Wyatt Downie and Kyle Whitney were the shepherds. Various members of the Grade 1 and 2 class narrated the nativity.

Sympathy is extended to the family and friends of Larry Walter Scott, who passed away Dec. 6 at the age of 52. Larry, who was well-loved by many, was the son of George and Margaret Scott of the Marsden area. His funeral was conducted by Pastor Mel Letkeman from the Neilburg Community Hall Dec. 9. The interment was in the Brady Cemetery. Larry leaves to mourn his passing his son, Tanner and his daughter, Danielle, as well as his special friend and partner, Cindy and her three children, Krystyna, Elysha and Ryley. Larry is also survived by three brothers Clifford (Margaret), Ken (Terry) and Dave (Cindy), all of the Marsden area, his brother-in-law, Bruce (Cynthia) Tumback, and Grandpa Roy Tumback and Grandpa Bill Drager, as well as numerous other relatives. Donations in memory of Larry may be made to the Manitou Lake Bible Camp or to the Marsden/Neilburg Minor Hockey Association.
