Maymont Senior Centre is getting a facelift thanks in part to suppot from a New Horizons grant.

Maymont Senior Centre is in the midst of having new windows and a new roof installed.

This was all possible due to a grant through the New Horizons for Seniors program. New Horizons supports projects that address one or more of the following five objectives: promoting volunteerism among seniors and other generations; engaging seniors in the community through the mentoring of others; expanding awareness of elder abuse, including financial abuse; supporting the social participation and inclusion of seniors; and providing capital assistance for new and existing community projects and/or programs for seniors.

Maymont Senior Centre is very active. Thanks to all volunteers who help with this project. During the summer there isn't too much activity at our seniors' centre but usually there is a potluck supper and entertainment once a month.

What is a seniors' centre? It is a place in the community where seniors can gather for support, socialization, fitness and/or other services provided for older people. Seniors' centres are important as many older people live alone and don't see family members regularly. The resources and activities available at many of today's seniors' centres help many older people remain a vital part of their communities.

Our condolences go out to the Roach family on the passing of Bernice Roach.

We are happy to announce confirmation for Legends which will be held Oct. 6 at the Maymont Memorial Hall. Dan McConnell from Saskatoon, who not only sounds like Waylon Jennings but also looks like him, will be joining us this year. Yu don't want to miss this. More information to come later on this event.
