Outdoor soccer being organized for children of the area

Yep, the rhubarb is up so officially spring is here! Fortunately we were spared the foot or more of snow that had been predicted for the Easter weekend.

Yep, the rhubarb is up so officially spring is here! Fortunately we were spared the foot or more of snow that had been predicted for the Easter weekend. If it is moisture we need, and I have not heard the farmers calling for more yet, then rain is much more desirable.

All of the snowbirds have made it back! Pete and Marg Penner, Don and Ardes Petersen and Ewald and Marian Miller rolled in last week. Some of the guys at coffee row predict three storms after the crows return so our snowbirds might get a fond reminder of the white stuff but we sure hope not.

Winners of the Rabbit Lake Easter bunny draw sponsored by the WhistleStop and friends were Cheryl Pelchat of Spiritwood and Adelaide, Don and Naomi Unger's granddaughter from Toronto. Thanks to everyone who dropped into the store and entered the draw.

We are attempting to get an outdoor soccer group up and going for kids of the community and the surrounding area. If your kids are interested in playing soccer once a week from mid April to the end of June contact Scott Dzialo or drop the names off at the WhistleStop.

Our community's condolences go out to the Boechler families on the passing of Margaret Boechler. Margaret, although from Spiritwood, had resided in Rose Gill Lodge for quite some time.

There will be a drama group formation meeting April 20 at 3 p.m. at the Rabbit Lake Community Hall. Anyone who might be interested in any aspect of drama during next fall and early winter is welcome to attend and see where this all goes.

The Rabbit Lake branch of the Lakeland Library in conjunction with CIF (Community Initiatives Fund) hosted a day of acrylic painting April 3. About 13 people from Mayfair, Spiritwood, Mullingar, North Battleford and Rabbit Lake enjoyed a day painting with Doreen Kalmakoff of Blaine Lake. I am sure that this is only the first of more days like it.

The Rabbit Lake Community Hall Board hosted the annual Easter supper April 7. We had a larger than usual crowd this year and the board really appreciates the support.

This time of year things slow down a bit with farm families turning their attention to the land, however there are a few upcoming events to make note of. The library is hosting a genealogy event April 13, with Rosalie Jarvis from the Saskatchewan Genealogy Society. If you are wondering if there are skeletons in your closet or if your great-great-grandfather was a horse thief, this would be a morning to take in. Contact Melitta at the library for further details.
