What is a potluck supper? A potluck supper is a meal at which each guest is expected to bring a dish. It relieves the host putting on the event and also gives guests a chance to share their best recipes and show off their cooking and baking skills. The key to enjoying a potluck is to keep the dish simple and easy to transport. Choose dishes that require little or no heating or refrigeration, like quiches, frittatas and pasta salads. A frozen dish that can defrost en route to the destination is also ideal. Make casseroles with sturdy binders like eggs or cheese that will not easily spill. Create the dish in a pot with lockable lid if possible and reheat it upon arrival. Enjoy your next potluck supper.

Charlotte Gillatt bought a Christmas tree Dec. 5 in North Battleford. She cut about 1 inch off the tree when she got it home, to let the water and nutrients get into the tree. When she removed the decorations from the tree Jan. 7, she discovered that the tree was growing. She is still watering it to see how long it will grow and intends to try and keep it growing until the outside temperature is warm enough to try to transplant it outside. (It will be somewhat of a challenge to get it out of the house.)
